Restylane® is a natural cosmetic filler that restores fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines. Restylane® is the first and only cosmetic filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid and is now FDA approved in the U.S. Because it is a non-animal based product, allergy testing is not required as with collagen fillers. Restylane® also lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are less frequent, and therefore, more economical over the long term.

Procedure
Restylane® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle. Side effects may occur such as temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These typically resolve within two to three days. Many patients report that Restylane® feels softer and smoother than collagen.

Restylane® differs from BOTOX® Cosmetic by filling in facial wrinkles and folds. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a drug that is used to block nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles that cause wrinkles that are common between the eyebrows and on the forehead. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatments with both products.
