Breast enlargement, or augmentation mammoplasty,
is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures among women.
Breast augmentation involves the insertion of saline or silicone gel
implants under the breasts. Some women feel more self-confident with
breasts that are proportional with the rest of their body, and others
who have asymmetrical breasts want to balance and enhance their figures.
A preoperative baseline mammogram report within 12 months of surgery
is required for women over the age of 30 in our office.
Procedure
Breast augmentation generally takes approximately 1 hour with a light general anesthesia.
Incisions are typically made along the fold under the breast, and
the implant is placed ideally under the pectoral muscle. The placement
under the muscle reduces the possibility of ripples under the skin
as well as allowing mammograms to be easily read in the future. Breast
implants are made of saline or silicone gel and come in a variety
of shapes and sizes. Silicone implants are now FDA approved for breast augmentation in women
over the age of 22.
With the approval of Silicone-Filled Breast Implants, women like you now have more options than ever to ensure that you get the best result possible. Our practice has undergone the rigorous certification process to gain access to the wide range of options in both the INAMED® Matrix and Mentor line of breast implants.

Recovery
The first 24-48 hours after surgery are the most uncomfortable. Pain
medication and muscle relaxants are prescribed to ease any discomfort
or pain. It is extremely important not to do any lifting during the
first 2 weeks following surgery. Bruising and swelling can remain
for several weeks until the implant settles into the body. After
3-5 days, patients should be able to return to work and resume normal
daily activities excluding lifting and aerobic exercise. An athletic
soft cup bra (without underwires) should be worn for the first 4-6
weeks until the scars have healed. Full athletic activities (running,
weightlifting, etc.) may be resumed within 6 weeks with the surgeon’s
approval.

Price Ranges
The approximate cost for breast augmentation is $5,000 to $6,000. This includes
the surgeon’s fee, the surgery center,
anesthesia and supply fees. The actual cost of your procedure is largely dependent
upon the implant type (saline vs. silicone), and your specific case. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)
publishes information on its website that provides information on the
cost of various procedures. Visit www.plasticsurgery.org.
These fees may not include the cost of anesthesia, operating room facilities,
and other expenses. If you would like specific fees in our office,
please feel free to give us a call.
