Facelift Southlake TX
As we age, our faces begin to look tired and reveal wrinkles that cannot be reversed by skincare. The aging process is due to the effects of gravity, sun exposure, and stress, which combine to cause wrinkles around the eyes, the mid-face and chin. A facelift (technically called a rhytidectomy) can improve the most visible signs of aging. The ideal candidate for a facelift is typically in their mid 40s to 60s, a person who is not getting their desired results from non-surgical procedures. A facelift can make you look younger and well-rested, but it will not change your overall facial structure or appearance.

The results of a facelift depend on a person’s individual bone structure and anatomical features. Dr. Mason’s facelift incisions are made behind the ear and heal so that they are hidden behind the hairline. He is careful that the skin should not appear too tight making the mouth immobile. A full facelift procedure includes tightening the cheeks, the jowls (the skin around the lower jaw), and the neck. It does not address the forehead, brows, or eyes; however, and many patients decide to have a browlift and/or eyelid lift with a full facelift while at the Southlake Center for Cosmetic Surgery. During the facelift, the underlying, deeper layer of the face is pulled tight, then the overlying skin smoothed. A small, thin drain may be temporarily placed under the skin behind the ear to drain any blood that might collect there.

The head is placed in a head wrap and is usually worn for 1-2 days. The stitches around the face are removed after about 5-7 days. Staples may be placed in the scalp and are removed after 5-7 days. If a drain has been placed, it will be removed after a few days. Prescription painkillers are prescribed to relieve discomfort; however, most patients are more aware of the bruising and swelling and not actual pain. Complete recovery takes up to six weeks depending on your activity level and your individual healing process. Smokers must quit smoking several weeks before deciding to undergo a facelift since it is not safe for the healing process. Beginning a good skincare program several weeks before surgery can help speed up recovery time as well.
