A healthy diet and exercise can go a long way toward helping you reach a healthy weight and feel great—but a healthy lifestyle often isn’t enough to make stubborn fat pockets disappear. If you’re frustrated by unwanted fat on your lower belly, hips, thighs, or other areas, CoolSculpting® can help you reduce the excess and get the slimmer contours you desire—without surgery, needles or downtime.

CoolSculpting is an FDA cleared, non-surgical treatment that uses targeted cold therapy to freeze away fat cells, helping to reduce even the most stubborn diet- and exercise-resistant fat deposits after as little as one treatment.

How CoolSculpting non-surgical fat reduction works

CoolSculpting is the only fat reduction treatment that uses cryolipolysis, a proprietary technology that destroys unwanted fat cells by transmitting extremely cold temperatures through the skin. Since fat cells crystalize (a.k.a freeze) at a higher temperature than skin, muscle, and nerve tissue, CoolSculpting can effectively target fat without harming surrounding tissues.

Your body metabolizes the affected fat cells as waste, eliminating them gradually and naturally through the lymphatic system. Meanwhile, the fat deposit in the treated area grows smaller and smaller over the weeks following treatment. The typical patient can experience up to 25% reduction in the thickness of a fat deposit after as little as one treatment.

Where on the body can CoolSculpting be performed?

Our experienced aesthetic staff can perform CoolSculpting on a number of different areas, including:

  • Lower abdomen (a.k.a. muffin top)
  • Hips & flanks (lovehandles)
  • Inner or outer thighs
  • Upper arms
  • Back fat
  • Bra line fat
  • Chin
  • Underneath the buttocks

CoolSculpting Plus with Z-Wave

Southlake Plastic Surgery Med Spa offers CoolSculpting Plus, a combination treatment of CoolSculpting plus acoustic Z-Wave technology to significantly improves the results of traditional CoolSculpting. Z-Wave technology administers high energy radial shockwaves to reduce discomfort and swelling after treatments—and clinical results show significantly more fat reduction than using CoolSculpting alone.

Z-Wave improves CoolSculpting results by stimulating collagen formation, increasing firmness, and improving blood circulation. As the fat cells are eliminated through the lymphatic system, patients can notice increased skin elasticity and firmness thanks to the added Z-Wave procedure.

Is CoolSculpting a good option for me?

CoolSculpting is safe and effective for healthy patients of any skin type or age; however, it’s best for those who would like to reduce isolated pockets of fat on the body. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss method, and the most satisfied patients are those who are already happy with their weight.

Additionally, CoolSculpting is meant to treat small to moderate fat pockets for patients who do not need a great deal of reshaping. If you have a larger amount of fat to address, or you would like to significantly change your body contours, liposuction may be a better option to get the results you desire. Dr. Mason and our staff can help you choose the best treatment for your needs during a personal consultation.

What to expect with your CoolSculpting treatment

Our experienced medical aesthetician performs CoolSculpting during an in-office visit at Southlake Plastic Surgery. Treatment takes about 35 minutes to an hour, depending on the area. We will apply a gel pad to the treatment area, followed by the CoolSculpting applicator. You will feel suction as your tissues are gently pulled up into the cup-like device. You will feel intense cold for a few minutes, which then switches to numbness. Most patients find the sensation a little uncomfortable at the beginning, and then very tolerable.

Is CoolSculpting safe? Are there any side effects?

CoolSculpting is FDA cleared and has been used for many years in the U.S. with an excellent safety profile. Treatment temperatures are highly controlled to ensure that skin, fat, and surrounding tissues are not damaged.

The most common side effects are temporary, mild numbness, redness and tingling in the treatment area. These symptoms typically last a few days after treatment. On occasion, patients will feel sore or have mild bruising in the treatment area for several days.

When will I see results after CoolSculpting?

Most patients begin to notice improvements within 2 to 3 weeks after their first CoolSculpting treatment. Gradual fat loss continues for several months, and results are considered final about three months after treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients are thrilled with their results after just one or two CoolSculpting treatments. However, it is advised that most patients need at least 2 and sometimes 3 treatments 4 weeks apart for the best results.
