What is a Mommy Makeover Surgery?
While childbirth is a joyous experience, it also takes a toll on a woman’s body. It’s common for women to gain 25 to 40 pounds during pregnancy, and this weight is stored as fat in the abdomen, breasts, hips, and thighs. Breasts will also enlarge to prepare for nursing. During pregnancy, sometimes there is a weakening of the muscles in the abdominal wall, and stretching of the skin as the baby grows. This stretching causes stretch marks, which are a breakage of the skin’s collagen fibers. Mommy makeover plastic surgery addresses these issues by using procedures which tighten the tummy, including liposuction and tummy tucks.
Many new mothers will lose the weight they gained during pregnancy, but sometimes the weight lost is not proportional. So fat may be lost in the breasts, but not fat from the abdomen or hips. This excess abdominal fat, accompanied by the weak abdominal muscles post-pregnancy will cause a bulging of the abdominal area. And despite many crunches, sometimes it’s just not possible to restore the abdominal muscles to their pre-pregnancy condition.
Many women also experience fat deposits in their thighs and hips post-pregnancy, that weight loss regimens will not budge. To get rid of this fat, liposuction — sometimes called “lipo” for short –is used to create more attractive, slimmer body contours. This type of lipo is often part of mommy makeover procedures.
Modern plastic surgery now makes it possible for mothers to look as young as they feel. Mommy makeover surgery addresses stubborn areas of deposited fat, as well as the drooping breasts that some women experience after pregnancy. A mommy makeover in Southlake is a combination of surgeries that target the breast and abdominal area to address the sagging and bulging that accompany childbearing. A mommy makeover may include breast lift or a breast reduction along with a tummy tuck or liposuction of the abdominal area to address the extra tissue there.
Each patient is different, so before your mommy makeover, Southlake plastic surgeon Doctor Mark Mason consults with you to recommend the right combination of surgeries for a personalized makeover to restore your pre-pregnancy figure.
Goals of Mommy Makeover
The combined procedures known as mommy makeover are customized to meet your needs. The desired outcome of a mommy makeover is full, lifted breasts and a tight abdomen.
Breast Lift Procedure
To reshape the breasts, our mommy makeover patients choose to undergo a breast lift with or without augmentation (breast implants). A breast lift increases breast perkiness. Implants can restore or create a fuller breast contour. The ideal candidates for a breast lift are women who have completed their child bearing and breastfeeding and who are also close to their ideal weight.
Tummy Tuck Procedure
To reshape the midsection, our Southlake mommy makeover patients choose a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) with or without liposuction. The tummy tuck tightens the abdomen while removing excess skin. Liposuction addresses excess fatty tissue. The best candidate for a tummy tuck procedure are women who are close to an ideal weight. Dr. Mason believes that patients who intend to lose more weight or women who want to have more children should wait to have this procedure.
